Vatican stamp honours priest killed by mafia

The Vatican has issued a stamp commemorating the 25th anniversary of the martyrdom of an Italian priest. Blessed Giuseppe “Pino” Puglisi was shot dead by hitmen in Sicily. He had been teaching children in his town to reject the mafia culture.

Ireland lifts alcohol ban on Good Friday

Irish MPs have voted to allow pubs to sell alcohol on Good Friday. The ban was introduced in 1927. Minister David Stanton said it was not “in tune” with today’s Ireland.
